The boy that made us parents turned 13 on Friday! This boy is growing up!
He has always been an analyst, but now he is thinking big thoughts about future plans and budgets. He has always been conscious of the feelings of others, but he is now taking more initiative to step up and handle things for others.
He still loves reading and is half way through the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. He is CLOSE to surpassing me in height, probably by the end of the year. He plays with his little sisters each day... to be fair, he is required to for homeschool, but he is enjoying it more and growing in tenderness with them.
Birthdays in the village (especially during seasons without teammates) are very simple, but Jude was still VERY excited to celebrate. He chose chocolate cake with chocolate frosting - because he is about maximizing the richness of dessert. He picked out a laser tag gun set in Australia with birthday money from G-Pop and Mimi and so spent a good chunk of the day playing that with Oliver.
He also got binoculars from us and spent time with boys on the ridge looking at different hamlets and villages on nearby mountains.
The older Jude gets, the more imminent his departure from our home and onto college/career/etc feels! So we stand back on days like his birthday and thank God that we still get to have him at home for now. We love him so! Here is the birthday interview for those of you who want to watch:
