Juli's Funeral
Juli died yesterday. The news came to us through Bangena and her young daughter on our steps.
“Juli died and her brothers are trying to hurt her husband. They are hiding him there in the Counsel’s house," they said, pointing to our next-door neighbor’s hut.
So many people were shocked. “How could she be dead? She wasn’t sick. I saw her just a couple days ago…!”
Eventually we learned that Juli had hemorrhaged all night and had died in the morning. A brand new baby, miscarried, and they could not stop the bleeding.
Juli has seven children close in age (the youngest was still nursing). Her parents knew that children so close together can cause complications, so a while back they told Samuel to stop getting his wife pregnant. Samuel agreed and promised his wife she wouldn't have any more kids, but it was a promise he couldn't keep.

Fast forward to yesterday and the brothers’ grief, anger, and desire for revenge makes more sense. They only know how to grieve "without hope" as it says in 1 Thessalonians 4:13.
The whole situation is so weighty and sad.
Can you imagine? Can you put yourselves in Samuel’s shoes? You try to care for your wife all night, she dies in the morning, and now you are hiding from her brothers, armed with machetes.
Can you put yourselves in their children’s shoes? A mother gone. A father blamed for their mother's death and on the run from his accusers.
This morning we donated some food to those who dug her grave. As we've spent time with the village, we have had several good conversations with those who are grieving and in shock:
How we don’t know the day of our death, when our eternal state is sealed.
How we can, now, repent and believe in Jesus and be forgiven for our sins so we can be with him forever.
How we can have peace here on earth and peace after death.
We are thankful they asked Zach to speak at her funeral so he could give hope and the good news of the gospel at such a weighty time:

So much discipleship is needed here: what does the Bible say about marriage, kids, death, revenge, etc… and we are still teaching the basics of the gospel! We covet your prayers.
